World’s largest superyacht
Project Azzam, staggering 180 metre project has finally been launched by Lürssen. If you did not catch until now – it is the biggest superyacht in the world, even bigger than Roman Abramovich’s 165-metre Eclipse. She was seen earlier this week being transported on a floating dock, where she has been undergoing final finishing since the yacht’s bow section was attached. First time when this beautiful giant has been spotted was the last summer, when she touched the water with no bow section attached.
Lürssen managing partner, Peter Lürssen said: “When she is delivered later this year, she will have been in build for only three years following one year of engineering, She truly represents another milestone in not only our history but yachting history as well”.
The desing of the yacht bears the signature of Nauta Yacht Design, with an interior by Christophe Leoni. Among many of her stunning features we will specially mention an open-plan main salon 29 meters long. Powered by the combination of gas turbines and diesel engines (two of each) with total of 94.000 horse power, she will cruise in excess of 30 knots. The project was managed by Burgess and here is what they say: “We are proud to be associated with this extraordinary and unique project as the owner’s technical consultants. The construction of this yacht with its highly complex technical features has been extremely demanding and challenging. It has been a real team effort between all the professionals involved including ourselves, the builder and the designers”.
The yacht’s build team was chosen and put together by Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi and under his command and leadership the original concept was developed, starting with the overall requirements with regards to general layout, size and performance and exterior style.
His main preoccupation was to build a large luxury yacht with innovative and timeless design that would be able to travel at high speed in warm and shallow waters, while providing luxurious and sophisticated accommodation to the guests.
The design has strength of character and sense of purpose, yet has a timeless elegance, incorporating all the elements of visionary contemporary modern design.
