There are two options at your disposal: first, you can book yacht provided for VIP guests and enjoy in private ride from Skradin to the Park's entrance and enjoy in private guided tour around the park or; second option: take a boat that departure from Skradin's Riva every half an hour and with other visitors drive to the entrance. To all of our clients, we suggest the option number one as it is much cozier and relaxed, private tour guide is at your disposal all the time and you are able to stop wherever you want and take time as long as you need.
Inside the Park: Skradinsnki Buk
What makes Krka so special? Well, the most important of what we call “Krka phenomenon” are travertine waterfalls. Ok, but what is travertine? It is actually a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs. It is formed by a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate and can form stalactites and stalagmites. In Krka National Park travertine forms barriers along the river’s flow and in that way magnificent waterfalls are formed. There are 7 big travertine waterfalls in the Park and the most famous is the one called Skradinski Buk (picture above). It has seventeen waterfall steps and it stretches over 800 meters, presenting the biggest travertine waterfall in Europe.
Interesting thing is related to Skardinski Buk waterfalls and Krka River: because Skardinski Buk waterfall slows down the river it makes upper flow of the river calm, still and lake like. So, here, on the Krka River the first hydroelectric power plant in Europe (worlds second after Niagara Falls) was built. Jaruga as it was named is still operational but it produces relatively small amount of energy.
Inside the Park: Roški Slap & Visovac island
Roški Slap is another “must see” attraction of National Park Krka. Well, at least the number of visitors per year says that. So if you are interested in visiting it, we suggest you take a tourist boat on the upper flow of the river, make a stop at impressive Visovac island and then Roški Slap. Visovac is miniature island reachable only by boat as you can see on the picture below. It is a home of Roman Chatolic monastery founded in 15th century by Franciscans. There is musem on the island, operated by the same order, where very rare books, paintings and other historic documents are to be found. First mentions of the island are dated in 14th century, when Hungarian king gives the island to Croatian duke Budislav Ugrinic.
